Restoration:
18th Century Andirons
This pair of ornate Andirons with scroll and
leaf motifs were in very poor condition when we took charge of them [left].
Entire sections were missing, some of the detail was bent out of shape,
with layers of rust and old paint overall.
We made
an assessment of the pieces and recommended accurate restoration to
the areas for which we had original detail on at least one Andiron,
together with reconstruction of missing detail based on surviving elements.
The resulting restoration [right] is coherent in its’ style and
is handsomely finished in armour bright and semi-polished.
